Kenya Defence Forces soldiers were arrested at Lodwar Police Station for slapping and disarming a police officer at a roadblock for delaying to removal of spikes on the road.
The KDF officers were riding in a water bowser when they approached a roadblock. It so happened that the officers refused to move the roadblock while demanding that the commandos identify themselves.
The driver of the water bowser alighted and slapped the officer on his right cheek, while another officer alighted using the passenger door and grabbed his AK47 assault rifle.
"Sisi tumeua alshabaab wengi, naweza kumaliza wewe sai."
The KDF officer ordered the police officer to go down on his knees but refused. The officers then left towards Lodwar town, where they usually collect their water.
The disarmed officer, identified as Cleophas Makhapila, informed the sub county police commander Turkana Central about the incident.
The subcounty commander mobilized patrol and the water bowser was spotted heading towards Moi Garden within Lodwar town.
The officers then stopped the water bowser and demanded that the KDF Officers provide their identities.
Police said the KDF officers were asked to drive their water bowser to the station and investigate what happened, but they refused. Their commander, who was wearing a sergeant's badge, said they weren't going anywhere.
Police recovered two AK47 assault rifles from the cabin of the water bowser, one with 29 rounds of ammunition and the other with 26 rounds. The arrested KDF officers refused to provide their identities and were booked as unknown.
The incident drew attention from members of the public who wanted to see what was transpiring.
The situation was further compounded when a section of KDF officers arrived on board a land cruiser and cordoned off the station demanding the release of their colleague.
The KDF officers will be charged with robbery with violence.
