Meru Miraa farmers suspend exports over high levy

Miraa farmers from Meru have suspended harvesting of miraa for the export market in protest to a commission of Sh80,000 per bag charged at the airport.

The hefty commission introduced in 2022 is being blamed for sharp decline in farm gate prices.

Speaking at Maili tatu stadium, they have also vowed to suspend the harvesting of the crop even longer if the government don’t take quick action.
