Makena ‘Whistleblower’ in Trouble Over Kilifi Governor Mung’aro Expose

A man is facing charges of publishing false information that a woman defrauded Kilifi Governor H.E. Gideon Mun'garo of Ksh 200 million.

Jimmy Charles Mureithi was charged with publication of false information, contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.

He allegedly knowingly published false information on his Facebook account under the name 'Mureithi Wa Lucy', claiming that Ms. Loise Makena swindled Governor Mun'garo, thereby tarnishing her reputation.

Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. David Odhiambo heard that the accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, allegedly committed the offence on an unknown date, time and location.

Senior Prosecutor Counsel Barbara Sombo opposed his release on bail since he was being investigated further by police.

Police sought to keep the accused for several days in order to finish investigations, including the examination of two phones recovered from him that were suspected of being used to perpetrate the alleged act.

The investigators also stated that the phone examination could indicate whether there were any further accomplices in the alleged crime.

Hon. Odhiambo ordered that the blogger be remanded for two days at Mombasa's Central Police Station so that the police may complete their investigations.

The court further directed that he appear in court on 11th April 2024, where he would be released on a Ksh 500,000 bond.
