KDF Chopper Crash Kills Five In West Pokot

 


Five people have been confirmed dead, with three injured, after a helicopter crashed and caught fire in the Cheptulel area of West Pokot.

The military chopper is alleged of carrying Chief of Defence Forces Francis Ogolla on Thursday afternoon crashed at the Kaben-Cheptulel border between Elgeyo Marakwet and West Pokot counties.


According to reports, the helicopter was departing from Cheptulel Boys Secondary School. The information also indicates that the helicopter carried several Kenya Defence Forces officials.


The team had just left a meeting convened to discuss the security situation in the West Pokot region, which included several top leaders.

According to images shared on social media, the chopper that crashed in the Sintar area is engulfed in flames near the engine area.


Residents have been barred from accessing the crash site as KDF and other officials investigate.
