Judiciary releases 60 petty offenders in Kisumu to ease prison congestion

High Court Judges led by the Principal Judge Eric Kennedy Theophilus Otieno Okumu Ogola released petty offender 60 inmates from Kisumu Maximum Prison.

The 60 inmates serving short sentences for minor offences at Kodiaga GK Prison in Kisumu were released as a good gesture for Easter Holiday and ultimately decongest prisons.

More other petty offenders are to be freed.

The judges asked the executive and legislature to help Judiciary revive the once vibrant municipal courts because they will help protect the counties and devolution.

According to the Judges, municipal Courts will help enhance revenue collection as a county.

"The reason for choosing to hold the Conference in Kisumu is in the spirit of devolution and it shows that the Judiciary is ready to embrace and support all courts across the country" said Justice Roselyn Aburili.
