Gunmen believed to be al Shabaab militants have killed two members of the National Police Reserve at Ziwa la Taa village in Witu, Lamu county. .
Witnesses reported that the victims were shot and killed following a battle with the militants. The attackers set fire to a house and a motorcycle before making away with food stuffs.
The motive for the attack was not immediately determined, but officials said it could be linked to Somalia's al Shabaab terror group, whose remnants operate in the region.
More police officers were sent to the area to track down the attackers, who are thought to be hiding in the nearby expansive Boni Forest.
This is the most recent attack in the area, which some officials attribute to land disputes in the fertile stretch.
The area is near the Kenya-Somalia border, where terrorists cross at will to launch attacks before retreating to their areas of control.
