VOI Crash: Government To Settle Bills For Injured KU Students

The government has promised to help the victims of the tragic accident that killed 11 Kenyatta University students in the Maungu area on March 18, 2024.

Speaking at the memorial service held at the university on Sunday, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu stated that the Ministry of Education will continue to work with the school and the injured victims in hospitals.

"To those who are in the hospital we will be able to assist each other in all ways possible and we ask them to be strong so that they can be able to leave the hospital," he told reporters.

Machogu extended his condolences to the friends and families of the students killed in the tragic accident.

He thanked the Taita Taveta doctors who treated the injured students.

"The Voi-Taita Taveta doctors were able to respond in record speed and tried as much as possible to save human life," the official said.

First Lady Rachel Ruto was also present at the service, where she delivered a condolence message from President William Ruto, as well as money to help the victims' families.

She thanked Kenyatta University's Vice-Chancellor and university leadership, as well as the Red Cross, first responders, and Taita Taveta medical teams for their assistance when students were in need.

She commented that these students' lives were cut short at the peak of their potential.
