West Mugirango Member of Parliament Stephen Mogaka has expressed his apologies to President William Ruto after his predecessor Vincent Kemosi Mogaka turned down a nomination from the head of state.
Kemosi had been nominated to lead Kenya's High Commission in Ghana and was subject to vetting by parliament.
In a letter dated Tuesday, April 9, 2024, the West Mugirango MP argued that an opportunity to represent the country's interests in Ghana comes with great responsibility, and believes his predecessor should have taken the job.
“I understand that personal circumstances and reasons for declining the appointment may vary. I cannot help but feel uneasy about the implications of this decision,” MP Stephen Mogaka stated.
While admitting to have fronted Vincent's name to President Ruto for nomination, the legislator implored the head of state to pick another able individual from West Mugirango for the job.
“I take the liberty to separately suggest to you your Excellency several Curriculum vitae to consider along with other persons you might be having in mind.
"We value your magnanimity and mentorship of young leaders and trust that the conduct of one of our own does not curtail your love for us and your relentless commitment to genuinely change Kenyans' lives," MP Stephen Mogaka stated.
On Tuesday, April 9, Kemosi wrote to the Clerk of the National Assembly declining the nomination to lead Kenya's mission in Accra, Ghana. The former MP cited family issues as reason for turning down the job.
"I want to give my appreciation for the invitation to appear before the Departmental Committee on Defence Intelligence and Foreign Relations, I wish to inform you that I will not appear before the said Committee for approval," the letter read in part.
"This has been occasioned by my personal and compelling family matters which after taking into consideration will not allow me to take up the position of High Commissioner to Ghana."
