Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Thursday, April 18, 2024, announced plans to construct a nightclub at Uhuru Park.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the park by the Ministry of Defence, the county head who stated that the nightclub will provide an alternative option for those opening clubs in estates.
He also announced that revellers are free to party till dawn once the nightclub is constructed and that there will be no noise restrictions.
At the same time, Sakaja announced plans to have amenities such as restaurants which will be constructed under the public-private partnerships (PPPs), he also revealed that the county government will construct a dancing fountain worth Ksh156 million.
The county boss also said the county will establish a tendering process for investors to facilitate the construction of amenities in the renovated park.
"We are going to issue some tenders in the expression of interest for the business facilities that are here. There are restaurants such as Swahili and African that are part of the plan. There is a nightclub that is going to be here..... We agreed hio kupiga kelele kwa estate muache. You can come here and scream until the cows come home. That is the zone, sherehe mfanyie hapo. The tendering will be done in a very transparent way, so whoever wants to build the club can come," he said.
Additionally, Sakaja announced that the park will be handed to the county from the Kenya Forest Service (KFS). He subsequently urged members of the public to put their best foot forward and preserve the park and others within the city.
"Let us commit ourselves to the preservation and enhancement of this park and other parks across the city," Sakaja said.
He also urged citizens to adhere to the park rules and asked encroachers to vacate the premises before the county takes action.
"Everybody who has encroached on the park, just do it on your own so that when we come you will not say we have demolished because we shall not leave until we have restored it," he added.
