President Ruto Promises Members Of The Clergy That Government Will Uphold Their Views

President William Ruto has assured the church that the government will respect their opinions and welcome criticism.

In a speech read on his behalf by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula on Saturday, Ruto stated that his administration will respect the church's place in society.

''The new bishops have a new role to join hands with their colleagues to build the church and also express their views freely about what goes wrong in society,'' Ruto said.

In the remarks during the episcopal ordination of two catholic bishops in Nairobi, Ruto said the voice of the church is the voice of God.

"Kenyans and its leadership from the top will respect your criticism and your counsel so that where we err we can rectify and change," Ruto said.

On his part, Wetang'ula thanked the church for being the moral barometer and rectitude of society.

He said that as the speaker, he will continue to resist any attempt to pervert society's morals through legislation.

"The legislation that we have must respect our culture and be consistent with our norms and any attempt to pervert those morals through legislation that may be engineered from other quarters of the world that do not support us," he said.
