One person died after a perimeter wall of a residential apartment collapsed on an adjacent iron-sheet residential structure following the ongoing heavy rains in Ruaka, Kiambu county.
According to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, two other people were injured following the incident.
He stated that a third person was rescued during the operation by the county government’s disaster management team.
The County Government has subsequently ordered tenants living in the surrounding three apartments to vacate as a precautionary measure.
Governor Wamatangi stated that a multi-agency team comprising county and national government officials will continue to inspect all buildings from the construction stage to completion, as well as monitor the safety of all structures, to ensure that such tragic occurrences are avoided at all costs.
