The Kenya National Highway Authority has advised motorists to refrain from attempting to cross the Athi River Bridge until the water levels recede to safe levels.
In a statement on X, Kenha advised motorists of a significant traffic disruption resulting from ongoing rains.
“Athi River flooded early this morning and the bridge linking Kitengela to Mombasa Road along Namanga Road is impassible,” Kenha said.
The bridge was submerged by floods resulting from River Athi which broke its banks due to the ongoing heavy rains currently being experienced in different parts of the country.
“Take an alternate route by diverting through the East African Portland Cement junction via Athi River to Devki.”
While issuing the directive, the authority warned motorists against attempting to drive through the bridge until the water levels recede to safe levels.
"Your safety is our priority, please plan your journey accordingly," KeNHA announced.
