Former LSK President Havi's bid to stop High Court judges interviews fails

Former LSK President Nelson Havi Has lost a petition seeking to halt the ongoing recruitment of the Judges of the High Court.

Havi had petitioned High Court to suspend the interviews, however, the Court ruled that he failed to provide the threshold necessary to stop the ongoing interviews for the shortlisted candidates for the positions of Judges of the High Court.

According to his submissions, Havi argued that the Judicial Service Commission male representative Macharia Njeru could not participate in the consideration of applications, shortlisting and interviews for judges.

He claimd that Samson Omwanza Ombati was elected to succeed Njeru and is scheduled to assume office on the 14 of May.

However, today the Court ruled that Macharia Njeru's tenure of office expires on May 14, 2024 and the newly elected JSC male representative Ombati Omwanza will assume office thereafter, therefore it is in accordance with the law that the interviews proceeds as planned.

"The court returns a verdict that the petitioner has failed to pass the threshold for the Court to interfere in the ongoing recruitment, selection and interviewing for the positions of Judges of the High Court" ruled the Court.
