Court Extends Orders Stopping The Doctors Strike



Justice Byrum Ongaya has extended orders barring the ongoing Doctors National Strike.

Further, the Employment and Labor Relations Court Judge has ordered that at list two to three doctors of various cadres be present at public health hospitals on a daily basis.

Justice Byrum Ongaya stated that until parties reach an agreement on a return-to-work formula for minimum safety services, all hospitals classified as levels 3, 4, and 5 must have at least two doctors per cadre, two medical officers, two dental officers, and two pharmacists, as well as at least two consultants designated to handle emergencies.

"For national teaching and referral hospitals of KNH, MTRH and KUTTRH there shall be for each hospital at least 30 consultants, 50 medical officers,10 pharmacists and 3 dentists designated to be on duty," ordered Justice Ongaya.

For mathare teaching and referral hospitals, the Judge said there will be ten consultants, three medical officers.

The judge stated the interim order previously issued for a sustainable amicable settlement in the strike notice and reconciliation proceedings on CBA and minimum safety services shall continue towards conclusion in 30 days and relevant reports filed accordingly.
