Government Goes After President Ruto Hecklers

Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki now wants those who heckle at political gatherings to be arrested and charged.

Kindiki issued a statement while on a tour of Kericho County, ordering security agencies to move quickly and control disorder during political meetings.

"The security team is also tasked to rein in on incidents of disorderly conduct in political meetings, conclude investigations and apprehend the organisers, financiers and perpetrators of hooliganism in the County, regardless of their political or social standing," Kindiki said in a statement.

This was in response to recent heckling when President William Ruto visited Kericho County for development purposes.

During the visit, Kericho Governor Eric Mutai was heckled by some residents, prompting Ruto to issue a call for calm and political tolerance.

The president urged residents to use their votes in 2027 to remove leaders who they believe have failed to deliver.

To defuse recent tensions in Kericho, CS Kindiki met with the Kericho County Security and Intelligence Committee, chaired by County Commissioner Gabriel Kitiyo, as well as to discuss the nationwide crackdown on the manufacture, distribution, sale, and consumption of illicit liquor, narcotic drugs, and psychotropic substances.

On Sunday in Kapsabet, DP Rigathi Gachagua condemned heckling during political meetings.
