A tear gas canister exploded on Monday at the Kitengela Police Station in Kajiado County, injuring two remandees.
The explosion happened as officers on duty during the day were handing over to their night-shift colleagues.
The officers were performing a routine physical count of the canisters when one of the tins, which had been reported as faulty, fell and exploded.
According to Isinya Sub-county Police Commander Patrick Manyasi, the two remands were rushed to the hospital, treated, and are in stable condition.
