UDA Party Makes New Appointments Ahead Of Grassroots Elections

 


President William Ruto on Tuesday, April 2, made changes to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leadership ahead of the party's grassroots elections.


In a statement signed by the party Secretary General Cleophas Malala, UDA appointed Kenya Revenue Authority Chairman Anthony Mwaura as the Chairperson of the National Elections Board.


He will be deputised by Veronica Kiberenge and the board will consist of five members including Lydia, Munika, Jimmy Kaingi, Mary Mutinga, Halake Dida and Linda Kiome.


Kenya Power Board Chair, Joy Mdivo, was appointed to head the Electoral Dispute Resolution Committee. She will be deputised by Dr. Adrian Kamotho as the Committee will consist of seven members including Hellen Makone, Yvonne Cherop Kae, Dr. Duncan Ojwang, Dr. Kaberia Isaac.


The final members include Barbra Japan, Anjichi Joseph and Ziporah Karimi Muiruri.


The Internal Dispute Resolution Committee (IDRC) will be chaired by Rebecca Tonkel and will involve six members including Hassan Omar, Joshua Ong'era, Leah Manyarkly, Samuel Kariuki, Bishop Robert Theuri and Ronald Shako. 


The party will also conduct the grassroots elections in four phases. These include:


April 26, 2024 - Nairobi, Narok, West Pokot, Busia, Homa Bay, Isiolo and Garissa County.


June 22, 2024 - Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Nyandarua, Tharaka Nithi, Machakos, Kisii, Bungoma, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Wajir, Tana River, Kwale and Marsabit.


August 10, 2024 - Kiambu, Embu, Kericho, Meru, Migori, Kakamega, Nyamira, Kitui, Elgeyo Marakwet, Samburu, Kajiado, Mandera, Kilifi, Murang'a and Lamu.


August 24, 2024 - Nakuru, Bomet, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Nandi, Baringo, Turkana, Vihiga and Makueni.


The purpose of the meeting aimed at ironing out the electoral issues as some party members sought an extension to allow for thorough preparations.
