Police in Mombasa have nabbed the leader of the dreaded machete-wielding Kibokoni Panga Boys that has been terrorising members of the public in the area.
Acting on intelligence, officers from the Mombasa Central Police Station arrested Abdulkadir Mohamed on Sunday evening, April 7, 2024, as he attended a football match in the Kibokoni area.
Upon arrest, Mohamed was found with a panga in his trousers, indicating to the police that he was in deed a member of the notorious gang.
The suspect's arrest comes months after he was caught by a CCTV camera attacking people with a machete in the company of his brother Hassan Noor.
In the October 2023 incident, the two brothers attacked unsuspecting members of the public with machetes leaving one person with serious injuries.
A report was filed at the Mombasa Central Police Station, prompting investigations by officers who had been on the suspect's trail since.
The arrest comes barely a week after another machete-wielding gang reigned terror in Mikindani Area of Mombasa on Wednesday, April 3, leaving eight individuals nursing serious injuries.
According to witnesses, a gang of approximately 20 assailants attacked them with machetes and blows.
The eight injured victims were hospitalised in various facilities after suffering stab wounds and cuts from knives and machetes. Others suffered blunt trauma induced by batons used by the assailants.
"I was stabbed on the left side of the stomach. He intended to get my phone. I jumped in front and ran," David Munene, a victim narrated the ordeal from his hospital bed on Thursday, April 4.
They were armed with machetes, knives, and batons. I did not see them coming. They surprised me and attacked me," another victim, Kennedy Muthui, who was nursing injuries to the head and hand said.
