Kiambu Governor Distances Itself From Cleaners Strike

Kiambu County Government has distanced itself from a strike orchestrated by Kiambu County Level 5 Hospital cleaners over unpaid dues.

In a statement shared by the Governor Hon. Kimani Wamatangi, the dispute is between cleaners and their employer Neru Kenya Ltd.

“The County Government of Kiambu, in fulfilling its obligations, has duly compensated the contracted company responsible for cleaning services at Thika Level 5 Hospital.”

“Despite this, it has been brought to our attention that the contracted company, Neru Kenya Ltd, has allegedly failed to disburse salaries owed to its employees.”

The Governor said his administration will consider terminating the contract.

“We urge Neru Kenya Ltd to expedite the payment of salaries owed to its employees immediately. Failure to do so, the County Government of Kiambu will have no option but to terminate the engagement on account of breach of contract . “

“By failing  to play its workers, Neru Kenya is not only unjust to the hardworking individuals affected but also detrimental to the delivery of essential services at our healthcare facility.”

Wamatangi further added that the county has paid salaries for all its staff members without fail.

“As a County we have  a strong commitment to the welfare of our employees, that can be exemplified by our consistent and timely payment of salaries to all 6,000 staff members. All employees have received their March salary.”

The situation at Thika Level Five Hospital in Kiambu County deteriorated after cleaners refused to work because they were not paid for seven months.

This is not the first time that Neru Kenya Ltd's 60 cleaners have refused their services due to salary delays.
