The Kenya National Highways Authority has closed a section of the road between Garissa and Madogo due to severe flooding.According to the authorities, they will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates. KeNHA stated that users will be able to use the road once the water-damaged sections have been repaired.
"KeNHA wishes to inform the public that the road section between Garissa and Madogo is closed to all road users until the water levels subside to safe levels and restoration works on damaged sections completed. KeNHA shall continue to monitor the situation," said KeNHA
KeNHA said the closure was as a result of flooding at the Tana River bridge, Mororo and Kona Punda areas.
It said their engineers had assessed the road and determined that it was not safe for use.
"The flood waters have overtopped sections of the A3 road at Mororo and Kona Punda area. Based on assessment by our Engineers, the road section at the moment is not safe for use by motorists and pedestrians."
The Authority has been giving updates on the flood situation across the country, advising road users to be cautious when in affected areas.
