Police have launched investigations after a 1-year-old baby boy drowned in a basin full of water in Ruai, Nairobi on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
The mother of the baby told the police that she had left the baby in the house alone, only to return later and find him in a basin full of water.
The baby was rushed to Precious Life Medical Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers visited the scene and interrogated a few residents and family members as they continued with investigations.
In addition, police advised parents to be careful when living with babies to avoid similar incidents in the future.
The body was moved to the hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident has left the mother devastated.
The family is now mourning the death of the baby boy as they plan for his burial.
A similar incident occurred in the Matondoni area, Lamu County, where a two-year-old boy drowned in the Indian Ocean.
The boy was playing with his friends on Saturday, March 9, 2024, in the evening when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Area residents tried rescuing the boy by rushing him to a nearby dispensary where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The body was later released on Sunday for burial according to Muslim tradition.
