A postmortem procedure on the body of the late journalist Rita Tinina revealed Tuesday that she died of severe pneumonia.

Addressing the press from Umash Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the family spokesperson, Timothy Njaga, confirmed that the autopsy was conducted by pathologist Peter Ndegwa and that the family was content with the results.

“We had come here to witness the postmortem and it was completed by Dr Ndegwa and the family pathologist. We have been given the results that the late Ruta died of severe pneumonia," he said.

The family asked Kenyans to accord them privacy and space to mourn their loved one. They also thanked the media fraternity for the good words towards the family.

"We should remember that there is a family that is affected," he added.

Tinina was found dead at her home in Kileleshwa, Nairobi on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

Her house girl found her unresponsive in her bedroom on Sunday morning.

The journalist worked at Standard Group's KTN before moving to Nation Media Group's NTV, where she served as an editor from October 2023 until her demise.
