Man dies after setting house on fire in Kitengela

Police in Kitengela, Kajiado County, are investigating a case in which a middle-aged man allegedly committed suicide by locking himself in his house and setting it on fire in Chuna Estate, Kitengela.

In the bizarre 6 a.m. incident, the well-known man is said to have set himself on fire in his modern bungalow while the housekeeper was doing her chores. The maid did, however, survive the incident.

The incident was said to have occurred while the children and wife were away.

Devastated neighbours who responded to the smoke billowing from the house were stunned by the incident, which they described as unfortunate.

The house was partially destroyed before the Kitengela Fire Service arrived to extinguish the rapidly spreading fire.

The deceased's motive has yet to be established.

The remains have been taken to the Kitengela mortuary while police investigate the incident.

Patrick Manyasi, the Isinya Sub-County Commander, confirmed that investigations had begun.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that it was a suicide fire and we are conducting further investigations,” Mr Manyasi said.
