Kenya Settles For Silver And Bronze In Africa's First Scrabble Tournament

 



Uganda and Nigeria won the men's and women's team events, respectively, at the African Games' inaugural Scrabble tournament in Ghana, as Kenya settled for silver and bronze.

Several scrabble players competed in 27 rounds at the Alisa Hotel North Ridge in Accra, Ghana.

The encounters revealed upsets and surprises as the eight English-speaking countries - Liberia, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana, and Sierra Leone - competed in the men's category on Day One to advance to the knockout stages.

The semi-finals saw Uganda defeat Nigeria by 5 1/2 games with a cumulative spread of +95.

Liberia also defeated Kenya four times with a cumulative spread of -15, setting up a thrilling final against Uganda.

Kenya won the bronze medal in the third-place pairing with 5 wins and 4 losses, resulting in a cumulative spread of +152.

Nigeria finished fourth with 3 1/2 wins and 5 1/2 losses, resulting in a cumulative spread of -95.

Zambia won the bronze medal with nine wins and a cumulative spread of +1104, while Ghana finished fourth after losing all nine matches with a cumulative spread of -1104.
