First Lady Rachel Ruto has announced intentions to form a prayer committee for Kenyan police troops assigned to the UN Security Council-backed mission in turbulent Haiti.
Rachel stated at the Weston Hotel in Nairobi on Friday, at a listening session for the 1005 Songs & More Gospel music group's 'Fourth Man' EP, that she had spoken with church members about Kenya's planned deployment of troops to the Caribbean nation.
According to the First Lady, spiritual involvement is critical to ensure the safety and well-being of Kenyan officers and Haitian citizens.
"I have been held up in a meeting with some clergy friends of mine for two days discussing the issues of Haiti because we felt as the national alter that we cannot allow our police to go to Haiti without prayer So they have been strategising on a spiritual solution for our police and people of Haiti," she said.
The United States first promised $100 million (Ksh.13 billion) to fund the Kenyan-led international team tasked with restoring security in Haiti, asking other countries to follow suit.
