Farmers nationwide will have uninterrupted access to subsidized farm inputs, including fertilizer and seeds, throughout the Easter holiday period.
Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has issued a directive for all National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and Kenya Seed outlets across the country to remain operational during this crucial planting season.
With the Meteorological Department confirming the onset of long rains in certain regions, signaling the commencement of the planting season, Linturi emphasized the importance of ensuring farmers can readily obtain the necessary inputs.
“I have instructed all Kenya Seed and NCPB stores across the country to remain open and serve our hardworking farmers who are redeeming their e-voucher for the subsidized fertilizer and seeds,” stated Linturi.
Additionally, Linturi dispelled concerns regarding the quality of government-supplied fertilizer, asserting that all products available at NCPB depots undergo rigorous testing and certification by accredited laboratories.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to supporting farmers and enhancing food security, Linturi urged farmers to remain steadfast in purchasing subsidized fertilizer. He underscored the government’s responsibility in ensuring the availability of high-quality inputs to bolster agricultural productivity across the nation.
Furthermore, Linturi reiterated the government’s advisory against the use of fertilizers that increase soil acidity, such as DAP, advocating instead for the utilization of NPK fertilizers. He highlighted the remarkable results achieved by farmers adhering to this guidance, reaffirming the government’s dedication to promoting sustainable agricultural practices for improved yields and soil health.
