Claims of suspected counterfeit fertilizer seized in Koibatek in Baringo County has left detectives from the DCI in a place between a hard ground and a rock as they try to unravel the mystery of the presence of the fake subsidized fertilizer in the Kenya National Cereals and Produce Board.
This comes after two Poror village residents complained that they spent Ksh.89,600 on 34 bags of NPK fertilizer labelled "KELGREEN" from the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depot in Eldama Ravine, only to find out they were fake.
According to police report, Some of the samples brought to the DCI office at Koibatek has granules resembling cattle licking salt and black stones and others have goat or sheep hair.
After inspecting the bags, the Sub-County Security Committee ordered the NCPB depot to recall 2,650 bags of the fertilizer that had already been circulated to farmers.
