CS Owalo Officially Launches UON ICT Systems

Mr. Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (MICDE), officially opened the University of Nairobi (UoN) ICT Systems today.

The CS contrasted the present digital initiatives at MICDE to the notable ICT achievements achieved by the University.

The digitalization of the University's records and the e-sticker programme, according to Owalo, are similar to the Ministry's effort to integrate all government services into the e-citizen platform. 15, 462 services have been digitalized as of right now.

In addition, he recognised and expressed gratitude for the UoN's construction of a data centre that is comparable to the Ministry's data centre located in Konza Technopolis. This initiative has the potential to draw both domestic and foreign private sector participants.

The CS pointed out that the University and the Ministry are in sync in the field of digital skilling. He said that in addition to the Campus's instruction in digital skills, MICDE has set up 185 Jitume hubs in TVETs across the nation, taught 390,000 kids, and connected 135,000 youth to digital jobs.

In order to improve efficiency and strategically position Kenya abroad, the ICT chief urged the university community and stakeholders to adapt to the digital transition. He pointed out that the government is shortly going paperless.

“Let us prepare for a new Kenya, where we are going to run a paperless government, a new Kenya where we are going to utilize technology to seal revenue leakages and run a 24-hour economy,” added the CS.
