Bodaboda Rider Detained For Allegedly Stabbing, Killing His Customer Over Ksh 150 Fare

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has obtained orders to detain a bodaboda rider suspected to have stabbed and killed his passenger in Eastleigh after a dispute over Sh150.

Kennedy Odhiambo is alleged to have killed Hassan Mohammed Abdi at Junja B stage on March 9, 2024 over fare.

And Sergeant Titus Munialo of Starehe DCI offices obtained orders to detain him at the Ruaraka police station for 14 days to conclude investigations into the murder of the deceased.

In an affidavit filed at the Makadara Law Courts, Sgt. Munialo said that Odhiambo raised an alarm and his bodaboda colleagues attacked and seriously injured Abdi.

“Acting on information, police officers visited the scene of the incident which took place outside Abyan Hospital Apartments and established that the deceased had been stabbed by a sharp knife on the neck by the respondent (Odhiambo) where upon being taken to the said hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival,” Sgt. Munialo states in the affidavit.

“The respondent (Odhiambo) was immediately arrested by the members of the public as he tried to escape from the scene and was subsequently handed over to the police and booked at Pangani police station vide OB 11/09/03/2024.”

The detective told Senior Principal Magistrate Justus Kituku that he needed time to interrogate and record statements of the suspect, key prosecution witnesses and apprehend other suspects who are still at large.

He said he also needs to conduct a postmortem and establish the cause of Abdi’s death.

An identification parade of the suspect will also be conducted during the investigations and the DCI will also need time to retrieve the CCTV footage at the scene and take it for analysis at the DCI headquarters.

Sgt. Munialo said Odhiambo is a flight risk as his residence is unknown and he attempted to flee after the incident.

He was seeking orders to detain Odhiambo for 14 days which Kituku granted until March 25, 2024.

Odhiambo had opposed the application telling the court that he had not been informed of the reason for his arrest and was not aware of the deceased’s death.
