A resident of Kiambu is counting losses after he was fraudulently sold a piece of land for KSh 2.7 million.
The man, who sought anonymity, cried foul that the 100 by 100 feet piece of land he was sold belonged to another person.
The victim narrated that in December 2023, he spotted the land in Mukutha, Ruiru, where he met the purported land owner Robert Waihumbu Nganga.
"I met the seller (Robert) in the office of the land broker in Ruiru town. We finalised the deal because the man had come with a lawyer, making the process appear genuine," said the victim.
Surprisingly, when he took steps to clear the land after receiving its title deed, another man appeared, claiming ownership.
Through his lawyer, he moved to the land registry to verify the documents, which turned out to be fake.
The title name matched that of the legitimate land owner, ID and KRA PIN, but the signature was forged.
"All the documents were labelled by the land registry as fake. But surprisingly, all of them had government seals and rubber stamps, except the signatures," the victim added.
He wondered why the seller's lawyer did not verify the documents before initiating the sale.
Juja police have launched investigations into the matter and a manhunt for the suspect.
